Emma Schmidt

Clinical Psychology Registrar & Sexologist

Hi! I’m Emma (she/her).

I am passionate about holistic, inclusive, and trauma-informed care, and recognise the interrelated nature of psychological and sexological issues, as well as environmental and relational factors. That’s a lot of big words to say that I hope I can be a one-stop shop for all things related to your psychological, sexuality, and gender wellbeing – because these things are all connected and impact each other!

My clinical approach is person-centred and strengths-based, and is informed by theories of feminism, minority stress, and intersectionality. I enjoy working with a diverse range of clients and presentations, with a special interest in working with members of the LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent communities. With my own lived experience of being queer and neurodivergent, I strive to create a judgement-free space for clients to feel safe to unmask and express themselves authentically. I love to celebrate and affirm these aspects of identity, while also acknowledging the stressors that may be part of the experience.

I have experience working with a range of psychological and sexual health related issues such as:

  • Mood and anxiety related difficulties
  • Trauma
  • Personality Disorders
  • Emotional regulation
  • Sexual trauma
  • Navigating differences in libido
  • Sexual pain, genital/pelvic pain
  • Sexual anxiety
  • Erectile difficulties
  • Navigating gender dysphoria around sex
  • Navigating sensory issues during physical intimacy.

I have provided support related to diverse relationship structures, exploring kink practice, exploring and affirming one’s gender, religious trauma, relational conflict management, life transitions, and more general mental health concerns such as stress, relational trauma, mood disorders, and anxiety disorders. I am also passionate about menstrual literacy and the provision of inclusive, trauma-informed menstrual education for all genders and bodies.

My inclusive approach is sex-positive, kink-positive, sex work-positive, neurodiversity-affirming, LGBTQIA+-affirming, and welcoming of all relationship structures.
